The Pilates Basement is a custom designed studio, built as part of our home, meaning we can keep costs down whilst keeping standards high. Our instructors are all fully qualified through the Australian Pilates Method Association.
I was first introduced to the Pilates Method in 1995, as a way of rehabilitating from injury and gaining strength and control for my ballet education. I later studied at the Australian Ballet School, worked professionally on stage, and then taught dance for over 10 years.
I have been instructing Pilates since 2004 and hold a Level 3 Professional Practitioner qualification with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA). I have gained considerable knowledge and experience in teaching the method over the past 13 years. The first 10 years of which were spent working at one of the oldest and most well respected Pilates studios in Melbourne, before creating my own studio in 2012.
While my training has been comprehensive, I have a specific focus on rehabilitation as well as conditioning for individual sports and occupations. I am passionate about educating my clients on how to look after their bodies on a daily basis and for the long term.
Whilst having 2 children of my own, I have also developed a passion for pre and postnatal care and the importance for mums to be fit and strong in preparation for this challenging stage in their lives, whilst respecting the limitations that come with pregnancy and beyond. I aim to make sure my teaching and exercise prescription reflects the individual physical and mental needs of each client in a professional but comforting and nurturing manner.
Kristina Hardner is a professional dancer who first started Pilates as a teenager to supplement her dance training. She completed her APMA Pilates Instructor course in 2014. Also holding a certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness and a certificate 4 in Dance, Kristina has an interest in using Pilates as cross training for many sports and activities as well as normal daily life to help ensure the body is functioning to the best of it’s ability.
